Three sparrows

As I looked out the window, I saw

three wee sparrows jumping along the wall;

I think the big one is the maw

Intrigued I got nearer to see

the three wee sparrows disappear into

the hedge that’s been there for many years.


My heart was lifted at this sight

at the very thought that there just might

be little birds living in my garden,

eating the slugs and worms,

and I feel vindicated;

my laissez faire approach and lack of pesticides

has made the garden a safe place to abide


So sleep easy and eat well little birds;

your secret is safe with me

I’ll take much care when pruning your home;

seeing you there has filled my heart with glee
